North Country Forestry was founded in 1998 by Richard Cipperly initially to provide forestry consulting services to forestland owners in the eastern Adirondack area of New York State.
The firm began the day of the famous 1998 Ice Storm and much of the first years were spent assisting lanowners in recovering form the devasting effects of the storm.

During 1999, Services expanded to add chain of custody certification services and for over 10 years, more than 400 FSC and SFI chain of custody and forest management audits were completed working as a contract auditor for Scientific Certification Systems, SmartWood and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

In 2007, changes in the FSC certification system presented opportunities to assist companies in becoming FSC certified through assistance in developing required procedures documentation and training.
